Daily Outfit - Kate - 12/23/10

In honor of the last day of work 'till 2011, today I am an elf:

And a very convincing one at that, I'd wager.

So...to make this post at least marginally outfit-y - I love this color combo! Assorted blues + whites + greys + blacks. It feels very natural and comfortable. Which makes me wonder how much of an impact color has on an outfit, in general? Do you feel energized in red and orange, calm in yellow and green, or contented in blue? Maybe that would be a good way to give myself a pick-me-up in those long dark days of January.

Oh! And also! Since we had a half-day at work today and I had the whole afternoon to kill, I decided to go and get my nose re-pierced:

It's got a tiny purple stone, and I <3 it a million.

I had my nose pierced a few years ago, but then on our wedding day in May 2007 I took it out, and that night when I tried to put it back in it had already closed up. I thought the beginning of a long break would be a good time to get it re-done, so my work people don't have to see the crusty bloody bit. It's so subtle, though, that once it heals I wonder how long it will take people to notice? :-)

Daily Outfit - Kate - 9/20/10

So it's come to this, eh?

That's right, a repeat. An honest-to-gawd, every-element-the-exact-same REPEAT.

I didn't think it would bother me this much. I don't really *like* that it bothers me this much, to be honest.

A girl should be able to replicate an outfit when she wants to, right?

It shouldn't bother me this much.

(Does it bother YOU this much? Do you ever repeat?)

Daily Outfit - Kate - 6/21/10

If you think I look unusually fresh and lively today, there's a reason.

You see, it was nearly 100* in St. Louis today, and I suspected (rightly so) that two bike rides in these surface-of-the-sun temperatures would place my skin tone somewhere past "healthy glow" and into "disgusting" territory. And let's not even talk about the bicycle grease on the leg, or the sweaty pits or the limp hair. Let's just...NOT.

So anyway. I took my outfit pictures before work today. Craziness, I know!

I'm all the time thinking, "Why don't I wear these shoes?" And then about twice a year I pull them out and put them on and within 5 minutes say "OH. THAT'S WHY."

Daily Outfit - Kate - 6/1/10

Well, I went for it:

And Jen, YOU WERE RIGHT. I can - theoretically - totally pull this off :-) Next time it'll be with a black tank, I promise :-)

My favorite part of wearing long skirts is when I get to walk up stairs, and hold the skirt up so I don't trip. Makes me feel like I'm straight out of the 19th century!

Thank you for daring me to step outside my comfort zone :-)

Daily Outfit - Jen - 3/29/10

I was holding out and saving this dress for a special day, but I just couldn't wait anymore. Is this not the prettiest and spring-iest dress, ever?

I was also having a heck of a time trying to figure out what shoes to wear, when I realized that I had a pair that could work! A few years ago, before I even knew I was thrifting, I bought a Halloween costume from Goodwill, and these sandals have been with me ever since. If I wasn't such a chicken, I would have bought these cuties last night, when I had the chance. I'm just not ready to rock heels that high at work, yet. YET.

Daily Outfit - Kate - 3/4/10

Jeff and I experimented with a new picture-taking area this evening, since now I have a 10-minute window of "daylight-ish stuff" when I get home :-)

Still a work in progress, obviously, but I like the natural light :-) This was one of my first forays into a collared shirt + cardigan combinations. I don't know what was stoppig me before :-P

(By the way, there *is* a dog attached to that head on the coffee table.)

This photo was gonna be a parody of the classic Glamor Shots "hold your collar" pose but then I had a huuuuuge chin zit so sorry you get the cropped version.

Still vaguely humorous? Meh. But I do <3 that ring :-)

Daily Outfit - Kate - 2/26/10

::YAWN::

I am SO over this week. Hence the "I am SO over this week" face above.

I wasn't feeling very creative today, so I just took my pretty new silk scarf and paired it with a bunch of colors found within the scarf. Jeans for casual Friday. I like it, even though I felt a bit matchy-matchy.

See all da purdy colors?

Daily Outfit - Kate - 2/10/10

::sigh:: As usual, disregard the horrible face I'm making. The grimace is thanks to my super-smart decision to choose TODAY to break in those new shoeties. Y'know, when I'm still recovering from this weekend's adventures. Hey, no one said I had common sense :-P

HOWEVER, that doesn't stop me from LOVING this outfit. LOVE! This CK shirt - one of my Filene's finds from last week - is sure to become a wardrobe favorite, and I really enjoyed branching out with the purple tights. I initially tried this on with my A-line tweedy mauve skirt but that was just too much volume, so I kept it simple and changed to the black denim pencil-y one above.

(that trio of bracelets is quickly becoming one of my favorite accessory combinations!)

I love how a good, happy outfit can make your whole day seem nice :-)

Daily Outfit - Jen - 2/2/10

Hey, little Sebastian. Mommy loves you. Do you love Mommy's outfit?

WHAT DID YOU SAY, YOU LITTLE PIPSQUEAK DOG!

No Uggs - check! Accessories (scarf and belt) - check! No jeans - check! I'm on a roll, right? I thought so, but I think something is off. I can't quite put my finger on it. I want to say that the cardigan is not right for this, but booooy do I love it. $15 at Nordstrom Rack, this weekend. BOW DOWN.

Anyway, I did love that although I wasn't in jeans, I didn't feel at all over-dressed for my office. Guess the whole "my-office-is-super-casual" excuse isn't going to fly, anymore.

Scarf: Delia's, I believe. (Who knew they have an actual storefront?)

Daily Outfit - Jen - 1/29/10

Thank dog it's Friday! That stinker is Dimitri. Say hello to Dimitri, everybody!

This was my second attempt at doing a fancy scarf tie, and I think I'm getting closer to what it's actually supposed to look like.

I love this coat. I loved it so much that I didn't care that it was not in my size. It was the last one left, and if I couldn't have it, I was determined that NO ONE COULD. I was so smitten that I paid real money for it to a store that I loaaatthhheee.

Cutie green coat, I love you!

Daily Outfit - Jen - 1/27/10

What went through my head when my alarm went off this morning: "Am cold. Do not want to get up."

What went through my head when I put this outfit together: "Am cold. Must go to work. Dress comfortably. Wear bright colors. Will distract everyone from what's going on waist-down."

Today, I tried the new scarf tie that Kate linked the other day. Me thinks I did it incorrectly, but I still dig it. And by I "dig it," I mean I am insanely obsessed with it.

Daily Outfit - Kate - 1/26/10

I really feel like these photos don't do today's outfit justice.

My goal here today was to incorporate a brighter color or two into my usually-dark winter palette. So I started building with the only bright-colored scarf in my wardrobe. I feel like the salmon-y pink complements the scarf's gold and lavender nicely, even though I don't know enough about color theory to tell you why :-P That skirt is my favorite purple corduroy one which I actually tracked down in Kansas City and sent my dad down to the Plaza to buy. It was worth it, because I wear it all the time and know I'll love it for years to come.

Close-up that shows the color of my scarf and the shiny gold threads running through it.

Finally, if I ever come out with an emo/punk album with a single called "Amber Ring" then this'll be the album cover:

Just so ya know.

Skirt: GAP, Fall 2009
Tee: Target via Goodwill, summer 2008

There are so many things wrong with this photo. The posture. The facial expression. The fact that Jarod doesn't know how to focus a camera. But hopefully HOPEFULLY, you won't find my outfit to be wrong.

I concede that my cardigan is too big. All things considered (like the fact that I'm usually dressed like a color study), I think I did okay!

Top: Lux via Urban Outfitters (ancient - they have all my money thanks to freshman and sophomore years of college)

Daily Outfit - Kate - many days ago

I originally wasn't going to post this outfit (partially because I just posted this cardigan in Tuesday's outfit), but then one thing led to another and yesterday I never ended up taking outfit pics. So if it makes you feel better, by all means pretend that I wore this yesterday instead of two weeks ago.

I was covering my face laughing, not crying. No worries.

This outfit felt very French to me. Not sure why, as there's not a shred of authenticity about it. But it still felt good to wear - cute and colorful(-ish) and fun.

My favorite part was definitely the shoes; I just got them on super sale at Naturalizer a few weeks ago (Hey! These are actually the ones that overdrafted the debit card. In my defense (again), that particular card is the "emergencies only" one which I still share with my parents. Y'know, in case I get stranded by the roadside. Or there's a sale at Naturalizer. So it's not like it was our main account or anything :-P) I love the combination of suede + leather, and the heel is *just* the right height - high enough to be cute, low enough to be practical and comfortable.

The scarf is vintage, but I have no idea how old it is. And the earrings are by mi madre - one of the first pairs she ever made :-)

Shoes: Naturalizer (grey seems to be sold out, but black and plum are still available)
Tights: Target
Skirt: thrifted
Tee: GAP outlet
Cardigan: Target
Scarf: Antique store in Parkville MO
Earrings: Mumsie
Bracelet: don't remember. Very old.
