Daily Outfit - Jen - 11/16/10

Whoa. I kind of love this spot in my backyard for photos. Now all I need to do to recreate this daily is to make sure both Jarod AND I have the same schedule in the mornings. :|

I feel like I'm channeling a pilot?

Closet Craving: LLBean Casco Bay Windbreaker

I know, that seems really weird and random for a Closet Craving, doesn't it? But here's the thing: sometimes you just need practicality. Sometimes you're standing at the train platform at 8:15 in the morning and it's raining sideways and all you want in the entire world is a decent jacket. Sometimes there's just a fine mist in the air and you really wanna ride your bike but it's just a bit too damp out. Sometimes you're taking an impromptu weekend trip to Kirksville and you're in "throw a change of underwear and toothbrush into your purse and go!" mode and you think it'll be a bit chilly.

Sometimes you just need a supercute, casual, sturdy windbreaker.

Daily Outfit - Kate - 3/23/10

So um...how obvious is it that I'm still loving this 90's inspiration thing?

Lose the jacket, you weirdo!

This was actually my first time ever doing the whole "footless tights with flats" thing. I think I liked it. How 'bout you?

You see, I - in my unrelenting fashion-forwardness - have always worn footless tights with boots. So I could wear handknitted socks with said tights and boots.

I told ya I was cool.

And also? I <3 my new necklace. Bet it won't surprise you to learn that Mom made it :-)

(even if I forget to make it lay straight before taking pictures)

And I bet you'll be even less surprised to learn there are awesome matching earrings, too:

Happiness!

Daily Outfit*S* - Kate - 2/20/10

Yes, outfitS. Because now apparently I'm one of those people who's so fancy that I can't just have one outfit for the day, oh no - I must change before high tea with the queen!

Actually, I could more appropriately replace that last clause with "...I picked out one outfit based upon a set of plans which ended up changing, so I switched to something more practical instead." But that's not as much fun, is it?

FIRST OF ALL, I want to say - yay for the end of Scarf Week! I can't believe I actually survived a whole week without wearing one stinkin' scarf. Hardest week of my life, probably. Of course, I had to celebrate its end in appropriate fashion:

Bitches, I WILL wear 14 scarves if I want to. And I will like it. And YOU will like it.

:-)

'K here's what I was really planning on leaving the house in:

Basic, right? And easy. And comfy.

Roxie liked it, too:

She's my happycutelovepuppy.

I'm not sure of the name for this scarf tie (if it even has a name), but I essentially just folded a square scarf in half, wrapped it on bandanna style then instead of letting the ends hang I tied them in front of the center section.

New earrings I bought from Mom's Etsy shop, too:

So that was the plan. Then I actually ended up leaving the house in this:

Blurry Roxietail is optional.

That was a good decision, as it was much more practical for our adventure - a short hike in a local state park - than the dress + studded boots combo would've been. :-)

First outfit:
Dress: Target, Converse
Scarf: Target, Mossimo (just bought it last week!)
Tights: Target (ugh)
Boots: 704b, via DSW
Earrings: Accidental Artists (Etsy link)

Second outfit:
Jeans: Lev's 518's
Tee: GAP outlet
Jacket: LLBean, fall 2008
Boots: Ariat, via Zappos
Earrings and Scarf: same as above

Daily Outfit - Kate - 1/16/10

I thought it only fitting that my first outfit post here on our new blog be one of my absolute favorite outfits to date. I just threw it on Saturday to run errands, and based the whole thing off two bits of inspiration: 1)A desire to try out the brilliant new scarf tie shown here and 2)The need to break in my amazing new 704b. boots. Somehow I also think it's appropriate that in my first ever photo in my first ever post, I'm making a typically dumbass face. But this is a style blog, not a face blog (let's all be glad for that), so I guess it's OK.

I felt really cute in this as I picked up my prescription at Target, browsed a couple antique stores, and hit up Scholar Shop's 25% off sale. I'm also sort of proud of myself for not just throwing on jeans and a sweater and calling it good. I guess it doesn't really take any more effort to put on something nice, and IMNSHO, skirts are even comfier than jeans (usually).

Yay for a slightly-less-goony photo!

(obviously I need to work on the scarf thing, but hey - nobody's perfect)

I even tried to keep with the "comfort" theme in my earrings, which were designed and created by my mom. Though they're very substantial looking, they're also incredibly lightweight and quiet.

I didn't have Jeff take any close-ups of my boots on Saturday, but here they are paired with another outfit from last week:

I am absolutely in LOVE with all that studding, and the texture of the leather. They're kind of a bear to break in, though. In a perfect world these would've come in a wide width. But we're getting there. Wearing two pairs of handknitted socks helps :-D

jacket: GAP, circa 2004-ish?
scarf: Old Navy, Christmas gift from a co-worker
tee: Mossimo/Target
skirt: GAP
tights: Target
boots: 704b (which seems to exist only at DSW?), purchased with part of my Christmas bonus money this year
earrings: Accidental Artists
