Today, I felt like I was channeling Miami Vice. I don't even mean that in a bad way! When I pulled my vertically-striped blazer and horizontally-striped top out of my closet, I knew it could be nothing short of glorious.

I just booked tickets to Florida, so it's time to start slowly exposing my skin to the sun again. When I walked out into the sun this morning, my legs actually shrieked and ran away with themselves. That was unfortunate, but luckily I have my back-up wooden stump legs that I can put on for outfit pictures.

I was told yesterday by a very uninformed person that this outfit was "over the top" because I was wearing a "corset".



The perils of being surrounded by nerds, I guess. (The perils of being surrounded by one hyperactive large blonde dog musn't be discounted, either)

But despite all that, I love this waistcoat.

I also wanted to talk about that buttondown for a minute. I have had it for several years - I think I bought it during my first "must obtain a work wardrobe" shopping trips back in 2008. It doesn't do a lot for me, but it also doesn't...not do a lot for me. I rarely wear it and yes it's taking up a hanger and 1/8" of valuable closet space, but I'm not about to get rid of it. This seems to be one of those basic items that when ya need it, ya need it. Right?

I really liked this outfit. This one may appear again :-)

I was staring at my closet today and re-discovered this cardigan. How had I already forgotten about it? I just got it! Anyway, I was immediately hell-bent on pairing it with this shirt. I realized immediately that it was a lot of yellow, but man. So in love with this outfit! I'm casual all the dang time, but look how cute I can be, too!

So, the other day I mentioned that I wore an outfit that my husband was crazy about without my even trying. In fact, I was going for comfort (i.e. wear a dress so that I can eat like crap and not feel uncomfortable in the belly area). I tried to wear a variation of that and failed. Sometimes you can't beat the original.

My mom was raving about this outfit, also. Just going on and on about what a "fashionist" I am. I was caught off-guard considering that the praise was coming from a woman who has very assertively declared that I have "no fashion style" for the greater part of my life. I guess I did plum good. Get it?! Like the color. I am on a roll.

I used my tripod again and am loving it. The only downside tonight was that every time I ran to my place, 3 dogs would charge at me. It may not look like much, but I'm calling this outfit a TRIUMPH.



Because originally I was wearing something else which wasn't that flattering, and which I wasn't that wild about. But instead of leaving the house in the unflattering icky thing, and then being miserable all day, and then being in a bad mood all night, I (for once) had the good sense to think to myself, "Self, this outfit would make you very unhappy. Take two minutes and change. The world will be a better place for it." And for once, I listened to myself. And changed. And now I am happy today.

Surely Jarod thinks I look phenomenal everyday, but I am pleasantly surprised when he takes the time to say as much. I haphazardly dressed myself this morning, so when I left the house, I wasn't feeling so confident about what I was wearing. He complimented me when I got home this evening, and I was immediately relieved to learn that at least one person didn't think I looked crazy today.

My weekend is off to an amazing start. Jarod made me (a can of) soup, and I ate (at least 4 spoonfuls of) Nutella. Top that!

This necklace was a birthday gift, and a perfect one, because I'd been hankering for a big fancy necklace pretty badly. Of course, accessorizing is a huge challenge for me, so I had no idea how to wear it. Put it around my neck, obviously, but what to wear with it? Me = clueless.

This morning was another one of those mornings where I was second-guessing myself right up until I walked into my office. I am so happy when I don't scare myself out of experimenting, because look! I clean up pretty nice, right?
