Daily Outfit - Kate - 2/15/11

Guess what? I've actually come up with a GOOD excuse to not do laundry.

I call it - "outfit creativity"!

This shirt almost never gets worn, unless all my other clothes are either dirty and/or damp and hanging on drying racks. And then I pull this from my closet, and think about its lovely little print and how I never wear it and how I really should. And then I wear it.

This happens a few times a year. Which I guess is enough reason for me to keep the shirt around, eh? :-)

Shirt: thrifted, originally GAP
Tank: Old Navy
Skirt: GAP
Boots: LLBean
Tights: Target
Belt: thrifted
Cowl: handknitted by me!
Earrings; necklace: Mumsie

Daily Outfit - Kate - 8/26/10

Today, I am blurry.

For real, and for pictures.

'Tis a shame, because I think this outfit - with corduroy and woven cotton, and comfy summery flats - perfectly embodied A. from Academichic's recent discussion about summer/fall transitional outfits.

I could go into a bunch of detail here but really it just boils down to: I missed my corduroy skirt. I like this top. It's cold so I wear a cardigan.

Practicality FTW!

Top: a billion years old.
Cardigan: Target
Skirt: GAP, fall 2009
Flats: Dillards, circa 2007ish
Necklace: booth at Strange Folk, 2008
Earrings: mumsie

Daily Outfit - Kate - 5/21/10

It's official, y'all.

I am WAY too addicted to full, twirly skirts.

And I fear a headband addiction might be forthcoming - why didn't anyone ever tell me they were SO CUTE?!

Skirt: Target
Tee: Target
Cardigan: I dare you to guess :-P
Flats: Born via TJMaxx
Earrings: MOM!
Necklace: vintage, via Mom
Ring: Sears (high school graduation gift :-))

Daily Outfit - Jen - 4/5/10

These were taken at lunch, right before Jarod took me to the podiatrist's office. The good news is that the splint is gone! The bad news is that it's been replaced with a boot, and my foot will take approximately 8 weeks to heal.

And heck yes, I sure did wear a wedge on my left foot, today.

Cardigan: H&M
Top: Old Navy (clearance!)
Skirt: Old Navy (clearance!)
Necklace: Unknown
Sandals: Target

Daily Outfit - Kate - 2/22/10

This wasn't my most creative outfit ever, I admit, but I enjoyed it. It was comfy and cute and had a bit of visual interest so that's good enough for me, for a Monday :-)

Weaker mortals are still wearing heavy coats in this weather, but I was dying to bust out my new trench so I decided today was as good a day as any. And then I went to the grocery store a few blocks from my work this afternoon and didn't even bother with a coat. Hey, it was 38*. I was in no danger of freezing.

Anywhoo, under the coat:

Fuck it. I took the rant down. But suffice to say I hate how unphotogenic I am. Rant is gone.

Well there goes my mood. Dammit. Sorry to be Miss Negativity tonight.

Anyway. Tights and jewelry:

Trench: Target, Spring 2010
Scarf: Filene's Basement

Cardigan: Target, winter 2009

Daily Outfit*S* - Kate - 2/20/10

Yes, outfitS. Because now apparently I'm one of those people who's so fancy that I can't just have one outfit for the day, oh no - I must change before high tea with the queen!

Actually, I could more appropriately replace that last clause with "...I picked out one outfit based upon a set of plans which ended up changing, so I switched to something more practical instead." But that's not as much fun, is it?

FIRST OF ALL, I want to say - yay for the end of Scarf Week! I can't believe I actually survived a whole week without wearing one stinkin' scarf. Hardest week of my life, probably. Of course, I had to celebrate its end in appropriate fashion:

Bitches, I WILL wear 14 scarves if I want to. And I will like it. And YOU will like it.

:-)

'K here's what I was really planning on leaving the house in:

Basic, right? And easy. And comfy.

Roxie liked it, too:

She's my happycutelovepuppy.

I'm not sure of the name for this scarf tie (if it even has a name), but I essentially just folded a square scarf in half, wrapped it on bandanna style then instead of letting the ends hang I tied them in front of the center section.

New earrings I bought from Mom's Etsy shop, too:

So that was the plan. Then I actually ended up leaving the house in this:

Blurry Roxietail is optional.

That was a good decision, as it was much more practical for our adventure - a short hike in a local state park - than the dress + studded boots combo would've been. :-)

First outfit:
Dress: Target, Converse
Scarf: Target, Mossimo (just bought it last week!)
Tights: Target (ugh)
Boots: 704b, via DSW
Earrings: Accidental Artists (Etsy link)

Second outfit:
Jeans: Lev's 518's
Tee: GAP outlet
Jacket: LLBean, fall 2008
Boots: Ariat, via Zappos
Earrings and Scarf: same as above

Daily Outfit - Jen - 2/19/10

Sometimes, I don't brush my hair. Sometimes, despite having not brushed my hair, I feel cute.

Everything you've ever heard about Koreans chunking the deuce in photographs is ABSOLUTELY TRUE. My mother has been in the US for over 25 years and still sneaks it in from time to time. Something in our DNA, I'm telling you. Nothing in our DNA about a propensity to feel cute despite having not brushed one's hair, though. I'm defective.

Dress: Mossimo via Target
Tights: Target (Look! I got brown ones!)

Daily Outfit - Kate - 2/11/10

Poor Jen! I'm so sorry you're still sick :-(

Today, I wore black in mourning of your...uh...happy week? OK maybe that joke was better in my head. I guess what I'm saying is "I like wearing black" and also "Feel better soon!"

Shutting up now.

(this was my first time wearing knee socks since I was like 5, and I liked these because they are navy blue but you mostly just see the white bands. So every now and then it was like HINT!color. <3)

I love that scarf, but I haven't worn it in months. It's thin cotton and doesn't do much to keep the cold out and warm in, but darnit if it isn't adorable!

Dress: Converse (Target)
Tights: Target
Knee socks: Target
Boots: NOT Target! (LLBean)
Scarf: Umm...Target
Belt: ::sigh:: Target
Earrings: MOM!

Dammit. No Target tomorrow. I promise. (if I remember...)

Daily Outfit - Jen - 2/4/10

It poured in Austin all day. Maybe it's just me, but it's pretty stupid that we get all of our precipitation at one time. Hey, Rain. Remember when we had that drought this past summer? Nice of you to finally show up.

I won't lie. I didn't put much thought into today's outfit. My main goal was to make sure I wasn't breaking any rules, like "No Uggs." Phew.

Pashmina: NYC street vendor
Cardigan: Target (circa a long time ago)
Jeans: Nordstrom Rack

Daily Outfit - Kate - 1/27/10

Guess who I was (very indirectly) inspired by for today's outfit? Hint.

Not even remotely resembling any of Mrs. Parker's actual outfits, but I think it's close in spirit - the straight, simple wrap skirt, the cardigan-over-a-shirt-that-looks-nothing-like-the-cardigan, the rounded collar and vintage print on the pink shirt, the prim shoes.

Look! I even have the bemused expression!

(though admittedly mine is more "ornery", less "befuddled".)

This is one of my favorite detail photos ever, even though you can see I'm covered in cat hair:

All I'm missing is an embroidered hanky up my sweater sleeve.

Cardigan: GAP, winter 2009/2010
Skirt: Thrifted, originally Old Navy 2002
Tee: Forever 21, circa 2004 (ish?)
Tights: Target
Belt: Target
Shoes: Naturalizer, winter 2009/2010
Necklace: Gift from Jeff for our first (?) dating anniversary (?)
Earrings: Mumsie dearest

Daily Outfit - Jen - 1/25/10

It's okay that I felt cute today, right? Because I did.

Having said that, I really need to explore the world outside of blue jeans. Seriously.

Belt: Gap (insanely old)
Jeans: Nordstrom Rack
Boots: No idea (insanely old)

Daily Outfit - Kate - 1/20/10

(It's sort of fun to say "one-twenty-ten" aloud, isn't it? Try it. I'll wait.)
...
Part of the reason I wanted to distract you was so I'd have time to think up a good excuse for my face in the picture I'm about to show you. Unfortunately I was unable, so here it is - bereft of commentary.

That's the face I'm going to use on my as-yet-imaginary kids when they do something completely bizarre.

Anyway, this is a style blog not a "faces Kate makes" blog (though wouldn't that be a fun one too?) so here's the whole getup:

I thrifted that button-down shirt a few weeks ago - was originally from GAP spring 2008 - and have worn it twice (haven't blogged the other time, yet). I feel like I've just barely scratched the surface of what I can do with it - with the classic shape and beautiful little multicolored print, it's a very versatile piece! Yesterday I was going for the "belted cardigan" look only, um...not with a cardigan. I also - quite proud of myself for this bit - realized when I put it on that it looked a bit sloppy (or, as my grandma says, "loosey goosey"), so I tried rolling up the sleeves to give it a bit more form and definition. I think it worked. And, as a side benefit, I was in a constant state of readiness to knead bread dough or wash the dog. Can't go wrong.

The boots are ones you'll definitely be seeing a lot of in my posts - I love 'em to death and wear them at *least* once a week, especially when it's cold and/or snowy. They're amazingly comfortable and the quality can't be beat. Who doesn't love LLBean?

It may not be the most revolutionary or exciting outfit to look at, but it made me feel good wearing it - and isn't that what counts?
