Daily Outfit - Kate - 5/10/10

It's a one-pic day today, kiddos.

I love this high-waisted skirt. Love everything about it - how slender I feel with it on, how the length is perfect, the superdark wash. But I also hate it. How I'm constantly pulling it down, how if it's not sitting exactlyright across my midsection then I look like Queen of the Fupas.

So I only wear it once in a while, and when I do I simultaneously adore and loathe it.

Such is my life.

Cardigan: Target
Tee: Sears, summer 2008
Jeanskirt: Old Navy

Sandals: Privo, summer 2009

Casual Friday = happy Friday!

Oh and also WINDY Friday!

Seriously, St. Louis. Enough with the crazy weather - let's just have a little springtime, ok? (It got down in the 30's over the weekend, and it's only 50* out this morning!)

Loved this outfit - so casual and comfortable!

Jeans: Levi 518's
Cami: Old Navy
Top: Urban Outfitters
Sandals: Payless? Really super old - like 6 years old.
Necklace: MOOOOOOOMMMMMMM!
Earrings: Twisted Silver

Daily Outfit - Kate - 5/6/10

A quiz:

Am I wearing the sunglasses because...
1)I'm terribly hungover from a late night partying?
2)I'm terribly exhausted from an all-nighter helping Jeff study for finals?
3)I'm terribly sensitive to the sunlight?
4)I'm terribly lazy and only paused for a moment for photos before dashing off to dinner?

Does that look like the face of a hungover, exhausted, or sun-sensitive person?

Dingdingding! 4) is the answer :-)

I got home from work late last night and only had time for a couple quick pictures before dinner and was too lazy to take off my bag or switch out my glasses :-)

But on the other hand - aren't these sunglasses kick-ass? My friend's dad is an eye doctor and he hooked me up with these a few years ago. The lenses are coated in the same stuff that's on astronauts' visors, and I love them. Only sadness is that my prescription has changed since then, and I really probably need new lenses. ::sob::

Also, this was the ceremonial Final Wearing Of The Boots. Or at least, of these boots. Until September. (OK maybe August.)

Daily Outfit - Kate - 4/21/10

Is it immediately apparent how tired and worn down I am?

Good. Let's call it a fashion statement :-P

Hangin' in there. Dangling. With a bit of copper and some lovely white beads.

Daily Outfit - Kate - 4/19/10

Yesterday was another first for me - first time wearing a scarf as a belt!

Definitely a beginner's attempt, right? This is one of three scarves I thrifted last weekend in Kansas City, and I broke my "wash thrifted stuff before wearing" rule just for it - I figured there were enough other layers between me and the scarf to protect me from the ickies ;-)

Anyway, I LOVE this scarf.

But I think it would've worked better if it were just a bit wider, don't you? It's a relatively small square, so I had to roll it rather tightly to prevent it from going all loosey-goosey on me.

I love that necklace :-)

Dress: Old Navy
Skirt: thrifted, originally The Limited
Shoes: Softspots

Daily Outfit - Kate - 4/13/10

This one's for you, Jen.

Oh, yes it is. That's right. AN OPEN CARDIGAN. Will the wonders never cease?

You tell me: coy, or disdainful?

Also, I'm getting so much mileage out of that crinkly floral buttondown. I also kind of love that I bought it in the old ladies' section of Macy's. I'm just that cool.

Skirt: Old Navy, 2008
Shirt: Macy's, 2009
Cardigan: Target, fall 2009
Flats: Dillard's, 2006 or 2007
Earrings: Mumsie
Pink bracelet: don't remember; very old
Silver bracelet: Kohls

Daily Outfit - Kate - 4/12/10

New cardigan!

I'm deeply, sincerely hoping that THIS WILL BE THE ONE to supplement my old ratty white cardigan. It's cotton, 3/4 sleeves, a bit of interesting detail (but not overwhelming), in a nice solid color. Nevermind that it's magenta and long and ruffly. Other than that, they're practically identical :-P

Also, MOMJEWELRY!

I love this stinkin' necklace so much.

Cardigan: Target, spring 2010
Tee: Old Navy
Skirt: thrifted, originally Forever 21
Shoes: Naturalizer, fall/winter 2009

Daily Outfit - Kate - 4/8/10

I'm not sure what's going on here, and I'd really appreciate your help figuring it out.

Good in theory, right? But something's just not quite right...is it too costume-y, with the voluminous blouse and the long skirt and the intricate sandals? (Do I look like a gypsy?) Is it too old ladyish, with the braided belt and skirt length?

Or is everything A-OK, and I just have an overactive imagination?

Regardless, I think that next time I wear a white top with this skirt it should be a different white top.

You can never go wrong with pearls, though.

Skirt: thrifted, originally Talbot's
Shirt: thrifted, originally Benetton

Aah, that's better.

Sorry. Pizza dough in my fingernails. Also explains the lack of bling-age ;-)

Where were we?

Right. Happiness! I feel a gazillion times better today :-)

Daily Outfit - Kate - 3/30/10

I really liked this outfit on, but as usual I was less than thrilled with the photographic evidence.

That dress came out of the wash sorta funny; since it's a bit big all over I may pop it in the dryer next time (I usually hang-dry all my clothes) and see if that helps.

All day long I felt like a very stylish 1930's farmwife. In a good way. The open, relaxed cardi, the simple dress, the classic and comfortable shoes. Except the jewelry. I don't think many 1930's farmwives had this necklace:

So I give this outfit a 9 for in-person appearance and a 4 for photographic. ::sigh::

(I think I'm going to try for more simple, comfortable, wearable styles. I feel like a lot of my outfits sometimes are better in concept than in execution; I'm hoping to remedy that this spring :-))

Daily Outfit - Kate - 3/29/10

I've no idea *what* I was thinking when I bought this dress-shirt thing.

(I've also no idea why I was making another gooney face there. Such are the mysteries of the world.)

I mean, it's (the dress-shirt) is scandalously short as a dress, but definitely too long to be a shirt or tunic. I'm not a huge fan of the scoopneck, there's no waist shaping, and did I mention it's SHORT? But I liked the color, and it was $3. So it came home with me many months ago, and has been hanging neglected in my closet ever since.

UNTIL! Today. When I wore it. With a modesty skirt underneath (hey will you help me turn 'modesty skirt' into a "thing"? Please?) and my new UO belt and one of my favorite cotton scarves, it's not *horrible.* Right?

Daily Outfit - Kate - 3/25/10

We were rushing this evening, so the photos are even crappier than usual. But that's OK, because this outfit was the epitome of laziness and comfort :-)

I originally put it together to wear with this new shawl I knitted, but then once I got it all on I realized - I really needed a darker color up at my neck. So I subbed in *another* shawl I knitted.

It's rough being me, you know.

Especially when I'm having a BAD FREAKING HAIR DAY.

Ever have days when you just want to cut your bangs OFF? Yes. Me too.

Daily Outfit - Kate - 3/22/10

Help me, girlies.

This is what I wore today:

Accessories and meeeee:

Not so great, is it?

Only thing is, I can't quite put my finger on it. I partially think it's a case of "throw together a bunch of random pieces that I all love individually"-itis, but that's not quite it, either. I think the main problem - please I'd love your input on this - is that I have about 3 or 4 outfits all trying to happen at once.

I *love* this shirt, and it's the first time I've worn it since I thrifted it a couple months ago. I've styled it about a billiion different ways in my mind, so I think when I got dressed this morning I forgot which way I was shooting for *today*. Shirt + belt? CUTE. Shirt + necklace? CUTE. Shirt + earrings? CUTE. Shirt + skirt? meh. Shirt + shoes? OK whatever. Shirt + belt + necklace + earrings + skirt + shoes? FAIL.

So how could I have fixed this? For the winning Shirt + belt + necklace combination, I think I should've worn my burgundy tulip skirt, and maybe my patterned brown tights instead of these (saggy itchy gross) ones. Shoes can stay just because they're my only brown comfy heels.

Or I could've worn another necklace - one of my silver/gunmetal ones - and smaller earrings. And I could've stacked on a bunch of bracelets, and worn my denim pencil skirt and black tights and grey maryjanes, and no belt. That would've worked too.

OR I could've worn the shirt with my new skinny green belt and my simple brown skirt and some new blue tights that you haven't seen yet and my blue copper necklace and the earrings pictured and I could get some other brown heels (maybe some that are dressier/less clunky looking?). Or green flats, if I had any.

*OR* I could've worn the shirt with that awesome new teal skirt, and worn a red scarf like a wrap belt and worn no tights and some black flats (which I don't yet own, but that's neither here nor there).

There are lots of awesome things I could've done with this outfit (err...shirt) and I tried to do them all at once and failed. Lesson learned.

Just goes to show - I have a *long* way to go.

Daily Outfit - Kate - 3/16/10

It's like deja vu all over again!

This is actually a first for me, though - my first time since we started this blogging adventure, that I've duplicated an outfit.

What can I say? I loved it the first time 'round, my co-workers haven't seen it (though that's not really a valid argument - I could walk in the door with my head on fire and they wouldn't notice. Architects, y'know.), and I can't wear what I *really* want to, as it all needs to be washed (too bad there's not a magical washing-box where you put dirty clothes in and clean ones come out, eh?).

But still, I'm a bit disappointed in my own lack of creativity and ambition.

Do you ever duplicate outfits? If so, do you have any "rules" associated with it?

Daily Outfit - Kate - 3/15/10

There's absolutely nothing exciting about this outfit. I was running late so just grabbed a bunch of pieces I liked, and threw them on together. Moreover, I'm pretty sure I've worn something *very* similar to this recently.

Oh, well. It works, right?

Gosh, I love that necklace.

I don't make Jarod's job very easy.

At all.

And that's about all the insight that I have for today.

Thanks to one of the loves of my life, Thao, for always thinking of me on her travels and bringing goodies like this necklace home for me. It's perfect. Thanks, ladybug!

Daily Outfit - Jen - 3/12/10

Name a store that is on your shit list. GO! Mine is Delia*s.

When I receive an online order, I try on everything for two reasons:
1) To make sure everything fits and
2) Because it's fun! HELLO.

Anyway, so I tried this top on over my clothes and thought, "It's okay. Cheap is cheap." Today was the real test. As I was getting dressed this morning, I noticed the elastic scrunching across the boob area. Why... is that there? Why... is my shirt puckering when it's loose as heezy heck?

So, I had to wear it like this. Good riddance, Delia*s. Also, I'm returning the pants I bought. The two same-sized pairs of pants that fit differently.

SO. Once upon a time, I bought a pretty cute scarf from a store called Delia*s at the mall. It's a pretty print, so I thought to myself, "why not try some of their other stuff?" So, I get online, pick out a few things, receive everything, and am ultimately pretty bummed.

This blouse is the first thing that I wore. It is SO pretty online. Isn't it? ISN'T IT? But when I opened the plastic bag and felt the gross fabric, I was admittedly, disappointed. But hey, it was $9.99 and not worth the hassle of returning.

Then. THEN, I wore it to work. I have never in my life worn a more uncomfortable article of clothing. For some reason, beyond the reach of my resourceful and logical brain, this blouse was made with an elastic band around the mid-section. "At the bottom of your waist?" you ask. NAY. "Empire-waisted?" you ask. NAY, again, I say. No - around your freaking stomach. Every.single.time that you stand up, sit down, move, or even breathe, you will need to readjust this blouse. And it sucks. My sister will be inheriting it in the near future, just as soon as she does something worthy of punishment.
