Daily Outfit - Kate - 12/7/10

It was 17* out when I hopped on my bike yesterday morning.

Time to pull out the cold-weather gear.

No more bare legs for me for a while, that's for sure. Good thing I <3 tights :-)

But all the same, I was sweating in my windbreaker by the time I got to campus. Hills tend to do that to ya.

Daily Outfit - Kate - 11/12/10

It may not look like much, but I'm calling this outfit a TRIUMPH.

Because originally I was wearing something else which wasn't that flattering, and which I wasn't that wild about. But instead of leaving the house in the unflattering icky thing, and then being miserable all day, and then being in a bad mood all night, I (for once) had the good sense to think to myself, "Self, this outfit would make you very unhappy. Take two minutes and change. The world will be a better place for it." And for once, I listened to myself. And changed. And now I am happy today.

Also? Morning outfit pictures rock. (Good suggestion, Jen!)

I sorta love looking cute even when I'm just running errands.

Even better when the only effort is lacing up the boots.

Daily Outfit - Kate - 10/21/10

Man, I really wish these pictures had turned out better.

I LOVED this outfit. If I were to go for a tromp in the moors, this is what I would wear.

Sadly, as I am lacking in moors to tromp in, I just wore it to work.

Loved the way this plaid looked against the bright green, and how the whole thing had a very vintage-y, rural English sort of feel to it. In a perfect world it would've been the skirt wearing the plaid rather than the shirt, and the cardigan would've been a bit looser and less trendy. But hey, I'll take what I can get.

I won't call this an outtake. I must call it 'the best of the lot.'

And also, 'damn that dog.'

Perturbed much?

(PS I really liked this grey + purple + blue + white + brown color palette.)

Daily Outfit - Kate - 10/5/10

I had high hopes for this outfit.

I was going for "sweet but edgy", "fall transitional", and "obscenely comfortable".

Alas, it was not meant to be. What I ended up with was "confused", "too warm" and "itchy and tights-ickiness."

FAIL.

Daily Outfit - Kate - 9/21/10

There's a lot happening in this picture:

1)dogblur
2)my neck looks fat, for no apparent reason. Weird camera angle?
3)awesome mixing of black and brown. <3!!!
4)comically haughty facial expression
5)a Jeff standing behind the camera going, "Make a face! Do SOMETHING!"

I like this picture better, but it doesn't really do the outfit justice, now does it?

Skirt: GAP, 2008
Shirt: Target (super-clearance!) 2010. It's a size too big but was so cheap I bought it anyway and have resolved to either wear it belted, or get fat. OK, OK, wear it belted.

Daily Outfit - Kate - 9/15/10

Today I wear black, to mourn my lost youth.

Saturday I take my lens in to the shop, to figure out why it won't focus.

I rarely do the monochrome thing. Only when I have a really great reason :-D

Daily Outfit - Kate - 5/26/10

today was one of those days where I had a Grand Vision, and then after much changing and tossing and switching and flinging and dropping and mixing, I was left with an entirely mediocre result.

Ever have those days?

Still though I <3 this skirt so I'm happy :-)

Also since it's apparently Dog Week here on our lil' ol' blog, behold:

Daily Outfit - Kate - 4/26/10

Aaaah! It feels good to be back! Dontcha hate it when life pulls you out of your routines?

To celebrate a return to routine, I'm wearing...

polka dots! I've had this dress in my closet for - no kidding - 5 years (I remember 'cause I bought it juuuust after Jeff and i got together) and IT'S THE FIRST TIME I'VE WORN IT. I don't know what to tell ya. I'm a crazyperson.

I also just put in a lasagne for dinner, and while cleaning up the post-lasagne kitchen, I rinsed the half-ful spaghetti sauce jar, not the empty one.

That's pretty indicative of this past week. Just in case you were wondering.

Can I just say also that I LOVE this Tiffany's bracelet? It doesn't get as much wear as it used to - I wore it or the matching necklace almost every day during college - but every time I wear it now it makes me so happy. So nice and substantial and pretty and happy!

Aah, that's better.

Sorry. Pizza dough in my fingernails. Also explains the lack of bling-age ;-)

Where were we?

Right. Happiness! I feel a gazillion times better today :-)

Daily Outfit - Kate - 3/29/10

I've no idea *what* I was thinking when I bought this dress-shirt thing.

(I've also no idea why I was making another gooney face there. Such are the mysteries of the world.)

I mean, it's (the dress-shirt) is scandalously short as a dress, but definitely too long to be a shirt or tunic. I'm not a huge fan of the scoopneck, there's no waist shaping, and did I mention it's SHORT? But I liked the color, and it was $3. So it came home with me many months ago, and has been hanging neglected in my closet ever since.

UNTIL! Today. When I wore it. With a modesty skirt underneath (hey will you help me turn 'modesty skirt' into a "thing"? Please?) and my new UO belt and one of my favorite cotton scarves, it's not *horrible.* Right?

Daily Outfit - Kate - 3/24/10

I'm feeling ornery today.

Even so, I'm rather proud of this outfit. I've had this skirt since high school and I've always worn it one way - with my old teal button-down and strappy black sandals. This was the first time ever - EVER - that I've worn it with anything else. I'm branching out! And it doesn't totally suck!

Oh, and check out the belt - that's one of my Sarasota finds! I'm madly in love with the color :-)

Also, it's official. I *must* find a fair replacement for this cardigan. It's what I really wanted to wear with today's outfit, but I've gotten to the point where I "save" it more worthy days. So I wore the pictured cardigan instead, which I don't like nearly as well. ::sigh::

What do you think? Is it stupid to "save" my favorite items? Even if they're raggedy 10-year-old white cardigans?

I kinda like the tone-on-tone necklace, by the way. It added a little texture to the outfit, I think, without a whole bunch of color discordance.

PS>What's the verdict on boots-without-tights? Acceptable springtime wear, or kinda trashy? Hopefully the former.

Daily Outfit - Kate - 3/17/10

So even though you guys see my outfits (almost) every day, that's not quite how I really run around. If you were to see me walking down Olive St. in downtown St. Louis on any given day, I'd look pretty much like this:

Only, um...without the cat.

But other than that, it's pretty much accurate - the earbuds attached to my iPod Nano (which I never carry in-hand, but always keep stashed), the sensible cross-body bag (in my old age, I've come to really prefer them over shoulder bags - love the hands free comfort!), the purrrrdy new trench coat of awesomeness. Yup, that's me.

Today, under the ensemble:

YAWN. And, um, do I even have a waist? Ugh. In an effort to achieve the "less is more" look, I really under-accessorized. This outfit needed textured tights or a scarf or a little belt or a bunch of bracelets or SOMETHING. I felt frumpy and schlumpy all day, after I first realized the problem (not 'till *after* I got to work, of course). Not a mistake I intend to repeat again!

Speaking of mistakes, check this out:

I love those earrings. They remind me of spools of thread, and I bought them at the Kirksville farmer's market when I was there one day with a girlfriend and her two daughters. They're fantastic and fun and I love them.

But guess what? I have no intention of wearing them today.

Somehow - guess I wasn't paying attention - I grabbed them instead of the dangly silver-and-cobalt ones I meant to wear. And didn't realize it until I was preening (shut up you do it too) in the bathroom mirror this afternoon. What's next, leaving the house wearing two different boots? (Sorry Amber...)

Honestly, my favorite part of the outfit was my necklace:

Jeff gave me the pendant on our first Valentine's Day, and the chain for our second Christmas. It's tiny and dainty and perfect and I love it. Isn't he a good jewelry-picker-outter? :-)

Daily Outfit - Kate - 3/16/10

It's like deja vu all over again!

This is actually a first for me, though - my first time since we started this blogging adventure, that I've duplicated an outfit.

What can I say? I loved it the first time 'round, my co-workers haven't seen it (though that's not really a valid argument - I could walk in the door with my head on fire and they wouldn't notice. Architects, y'know.), and I can't wear what I *really* want to, as it all needs to be washed (too bad there's not a magical washing-box where you put dirty clothes in and clean ones come out, eh?).

But still, I'm a bit disappointed in my own lack of creativity and ambition.

Do you ever duplicate outfits? If so, do you have any "rules" associated with it?

Daily Outfits - Kate - 3/5/10 and 3/8/10

It's another twofer today, because apparently - as I learned on Friday - pictures won't just blog themselves. I KNOW, right?

Wanna know what's more exciting than that outfit? The baby gate in the background. Because it's not currently braced in the doorway; it's been leaning against that wall since Friday. BECAUSE ROXIE IS HOUSEBROKEN!!!!!! And after only a year and a half.... :-{ But still! Housebroken!

Anyway, I felt really comfortable and happy in Friday's outfit. Nice cozy cardigan, comfy cotton tank (with embellishment! And not completely boring!) and my omnipresent 518's and Ariat boots. I'm gonna call this look "country casual" and if it were up to me I'd wear this every day that I *don't* wear skirts. Oh, wait. I do. And then I wear the boots with a skirt.

There you can see some of the detail on my tank, and also my awesome necklace. That's made from a Fitz's bottlecap, and I got it from a seller at Green With Indie last year. Fitz's is one of my favorite things about St. Louis :-)

Cardigan: Target, winter 2009/2010
Tank: GAP, umm...2008?
Jeans: Levis 518's
Boots: Ariat
Necklace: artist at Green With Indie, spring 2009
Earrings: Mumsie

Aaaaannnnd....today. An outfit that I planned before I got out of bed, and was honestly half the reason I even GOT out of bed. It's so 90's-licious; I love it!

I feel like an extra straight out of Empire Records! Sorta punky edgy, sorta sweet, REALLY 90's.

Even the necklace - which is too long on its own, so I wear it doubled up with the extra length as a choker - reminds me of the 90's. And I'm also realizing how the choker style is actually a little bit flattering, isn't it?

Daily Outfit - Kate and Jeff - 3/2/10

I'm extra excited about today's post, because I convinced Jeff to make an appearance here on the blog. He was dressed up for an oral argument today (he's a law student) and looked SO FREAKING CUTE that I figured y'all might wanna see his yummyness :-)

Couldn't you just eat him up?

Cutest law student I know :-)

::mwah::

My turn!

I continue to <3 this trench. I find it intriguing.

You know what else is intriguing?

HA.

(not quite the same effect when the flasher is clothed, is it?)

Something about about this light has the effect of creating bumps and lumps where there are none. I LOVE this skirt (which isn't actually filled with weird lines, as it appears above) I thrifted a couple months back and it's super flattering on. It's a nice heavy jersey with enough fullness to really balance a more fitted top. Oh and the blue-on-blue layering? So much fun. I've gotta try same-color layering again!

This is also the blog- and life-debut of my scarf! I just finished knitting and blocking it the other day :-) I set it out this morning and planned the rest of the outfit around it. You can probably tell.

Daily Outfit - Kate - 2/26/10

::YAWN::

I am SO over this week. Hence the "I am SO over this week" face above.

I wasn't feeling very creative today, so I just took my pretty new silk scarf and paired it with a bunch of colors found within the scarf. Jeans for casual Friday. I like it, even though I felt a bit matchy-matchy.

See all da purdy colors?

Daily Outfit - Kate - 2/25/10

If I were a better outfit-maker, I'd have incorporated more purple (besides just the corduroy skirt) into this ensemble. Unfortunately, 4 days of insomnia has taken its toll on me, so let's just thank [deity] that I remembered to put a skirt on over my slip, eh?

Hey, I already said I was exhausted. So I won't apologize for the slumpy shoulders and goony expression. MY EYES ARE OPEN. WHAT MORE DO YOU WANT?!

I love this bib-style shirt. It gives that "Oh hai, boobs!" effect for those of us who aren't naturally blessed ;-)
