Daily Outfit - Jen - 02/23/11

I just booked tickets to Florida, so it's time to start slowly exposing my skin to the sun again. When I walked out into the sun this morning, my legs actually shrieked and ran away with themselves. That was unfortunate, but luckily I have my back-up wooden stump legs that I can put on for outfit pictures.

Daily Outfit - Kate - 2/16/11

HOLY CRAP!!!! IS THAT...DAYLIGHT?!?!?!

IT IS! IT IS!

(It's also the dry, stalk-y dredges of last year's garden. Sorry. I'm a lazy-ass and a failure as a human being, clearly.)

I love this skirt - this photo really doesn't do it justice, but I just have to say - I'm almost ashamed that I let it languish, unworn, in my closet for so long. I'm sorry, skirt. Forgive me?

(PS>I love how you can see my little green Mazda, Ahura, hanging out down on the street. High, Ahura! Sorry I only drive you once every 3 weeks or so!)

Daily Outfit - Jen - 02/12/11

I asked for season tickets to the ballet for the 2010-11 season, and because I'm loved (and persistent), I got 'em. I'm all about PDA, but with Valentine's Day upon us, there was an unusually high turnout of LOVERS at the ballet last night. You know what I am talking about. LOVERS are those people with tongues in throat, holding one another for prolonged periods of time, staring deeply into each other's eyes... in front of everybody. There were a couple of LOVERS sitting right in front of us, and we totally got 2 shows for the price of 1 last night.

Oh, yeah. This is what I wore.

Daily Outfit - Jen - 01/07/11

I bought some new heels and freaking loved them until everybody at the office commented that they were really loud. And really it was just 2 people that hinted at the unusual decible levels of my footwear. 1 was my sister, and she doesn't count, so really it was 1 person. Anyway, UGH. It just crushed my sole.

SEE WHAT I DID THERE?

Daily Outfit - Kate - 12/13/10

Jeff drove me to work today, because I was running late and had to proctor exams and...awww hell, it's snowy.

Guess what that means?

NO BOOTS.

(But Fluevogs. Which are so comfy they might as well be boots.)

I'm not really fuzzy and angry. Just tired and worn out from trying to navigate the Trader Joe's/Target/PetsMart parking lot in the middle of December.

I'm lucky I came out of it alive, wouldn't you say?

Oh! So...outfit-y talk!

One thing I loved about this outfit is just how many components are personalized, and/or thoughtfully made. Aside from the Target cardi and GAP/Old Navy components, everything else is either handmade, and/or consciously and mindfully constructed. I love buying from small sellers or companies, and getting free pretties from my mum. It makes the outfits that much more special, eh? :-)

Daily Outfit - Kate - 12/1/10

This is, to me, the quintessential fall outfit:

I LOVE how versatile that new wrap skirt - I have about a billion other outfits planned for it, too! :-) I also never get tired of this deep purple cowl-neck. I think I've worn it 30 times, if I've worn it once. Together? WIN.

Daily Outfit - Kate - 11/23/10

This was the perfect thing for the less-than-perfect stupidly warm weather.

Don't you love long flowy skirts?

I love these boots. I've had them for almost four years (I bought them on our honeymoon) and have NEVER worn them out of the house. I've always just worn them around the house, thought about wearing them out, then gotten scared of the heel height and taken them off in favor of something more reasonable.

Because I'm an old lady, you see.

The Spoils: The F-word

My friends, I have been bad.

There was a great deal to be had on Endless last week.

And...

Which doesn't look all that exciting, I know. But you haven't looked inside yet. At this:

Oh yes I did.

(At least you know it isn't boots)

O.M.G.

I mean, what else am I gonna do when they're only $140, and there's one pair left, and THEY'RE MY SIZE?

My hands were tied.

I'm so in love.

And so poor now.

But so in love.

Surely you understand?

(Besides, I'm just working my way down the list? Which makes total sense.)

Daily Outfit - Jen - 11/18/10

This outfit makes me want to buy more bootcut jeans and heels. It also makes me want some mint chocolate chip ice cream and a Caramilk!

I have to take a nap, you guys. SOME OF US HAVE TO WORK IN THE MORNING (after watching a midnight showing of Harry Potter!!).

Daily Outfit - Kate - 11/8/10

I rarely wear this sweater because it's acrylic. And every time I wear it, I really wish it were wool instead.

To me, acrylic just doesn't breathe. It pills up really quickly and looks ragged and just doesn't feel nice against my skin.

But have you ever tried to buy a wool sweater with this much drape and yardage? For how much it costs, I may as well spend the same $$ on yarn, knit my own and get some fun out of it, too, right? :-P

But all that aside, I did like yesterday's outfit. The color palette really worked for me: a bright primary (the tights), a bright secondary (the sweater), and a muted secondary (the tank), along with neutral browns. I doubt that's a formula you'd find in any color guidelines, but I liked it :-)

Sweater: somewhere in Chicago, 2/2010
Tank: Target
Skirt: Sears, circa 2008

Daily Outfit - Kate - 11/2/10

I tried to fix this picture.

I failed. It's green now, instead of yellow. This is not much of an improvement, merely a difference.

I think the best way to not have sucky photos is to not *take* sucky photos.

And how do I avoid taking sucky photos?

DON'T TAKE THEM AT 8:00PM. Duh. (Or, actually take my fancy camera off no-flash-auto once in a while)

Also, remember this outfit - because later, we shall be playing a little game called "what could have been". Brace yourselves.

Daily Outfit - Jen - 10/19/10

I'm trying to think of something fun and interesting to write, but I'm too distracted. Sorry. To be fair, you would be distracted if you were in my position, too. That position being one in which a person is about to go out for some Thai food. See? You understand.

Daily Outfit - Jen - 10/18/10

I forgot that I owned this blouse until this morning. I guess that's not entirely accurate, since I didn't remember that I own it; rather, I re-discovered it in my closet. Looking at these photos, I wish I could forget that I own it, again. Something just doesn't seem right. Maybe it's just the combination with this skirt? I don't know. All day I just kept thinking to myself that the skirt wasn't sitting right on my body. Isn't it ridiculous that I am only now noticing this? Wah.

I like purple. Ramble, ramble, ramble.

Daily Outfit - Jen - 10/13/10

Not only is today my anniversary, but it is also my husband's birthday - yay! This is what I wore today. I decided last minute to switch out of my black heels and into my wedding shoes to make it an extra good day.

For dinner, my husband wore a bright red face.

Because I hired a singing telegram.

Dressed in a gorilla suit.

Win! :D

Daily Outfit - Jen - 9/28/10

"You look like you walked straight out of a J. Crew catalog."

I'm pretty sure that's a compliment, and I'm pretty sure I'll take it!

Misc. things I'm also pretty sure about:

- the weather being (temporarily) glorious
- a Rocky marathon in the near future with my dear friend, Thao
- leftover birthday cake and mint chocolate chip ice cream every day this week

Daily Outfit - Kate - 9/14/10

Oh man it feel like it has been AGES since I've been able to wear normal (read: non "businesswoman-y") clothes. But it's really only been like 5 days. But still.

Here's the thing: even though I've been in a white-collar office job for over two years now, I've thus far managed to elude the whole "button-down shirt, slacks and pumps" environment. First by hiding out with a bunch of architects, now by barricading myself in my office in a tiny corner of academia. I've never worked somewhere that frowns upon handknitted shawls or twirly skirts or even pink cowboy boots (though maybe not all three at once). I've been very lucky.

But even so, there are still occasions - forgive me for not going into more detail (I like to keep work and play decidedly separate) - where a girl's gotta look uber-professional, and neutral, and remove all potential for offense. Enter the black pumps, grey a-line skirt, and crisp blue top. I figure that also justifies the lack of outfit posts this past week ;-)

And now that I'm back to normal, I'm...back to normal :-)

I thought this picture was really cute 'till Jeff pointed out that Roxie's hiney looks like a dead turkey on the floor next to me.

Sorry, Roxie. Nothing personal.

This necklace + this cardigan + these shoes = my new most favorite thing ever.

Something tells me that I'm ready for the fall. Also, the empire waist did me no favors, today.

Why does Sebastian always steal my thunder?
