Daily Outfit - Jen - 02/25/11

I love a good Friday. That is to say I love when the week is over. In other words, I like not having to work. Gosh, do I really have to spell it out for you!

Daily Outfit - Kate - 2/23/11

Of all the days I'd like to have more than ONE CRAPPY-ASS BLURRY WAIST-UP PHOTO of my outfit, this was it.

That's my new cardigan and scarf from LLBean, and they're awesomeness incarnate, but you can't tell because it was too late and I was too tired to be bothered with decent photos.

Lesson learned. And also I think I'll repeat this exact outfit again tomorrow and take proper pictures then. Because it's goodness.

Daily Outfit - Jen - 02/23/11

I just booked tickets to Florida, so it's time to start slowly exposing my skin to the sun again. When I walked out into the sun this morning, my legs actually shrieked and ran away with themselves. That was unfortunate, but luckily I have my back-up wooden stump legs that I can put on for outfit pictures.

I hate this, so I'm going to quickly move on. The only good thing in these photos is Broughton.

Dear Kate

In honor of Washington's birthday, I wore a Snuggie for the better part of the day. When I was forced to actually leave the house to buy dog food, I looked like trash. But I guess since I was wearing a bra, it wasn't a total loss, eh?

On to pressing matters: I need to know immediately if your Florida trip will or will not include a visit to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. I will also need to know whether or not you will be wearing your Snitch necklace and/or earrings on this trip. Thank you.

:D

Yours,
Jen

Dear Jen

I'm going to Florida next month. Which means that I will undoubtedly be requiring a new dress. Something casual and obscenely comfortable for the plane, yet not forsaking my cardinal rules of dress-dom:

1)Knee length at least
2)Nothing obscenely, immodestly low-cut in front. Because I'm a bit of a prude, y'know.
3)No empire waist, probably.
4)No non-natural fibers. Who wants to wear polyester in 100% humidity?

Luckily, I'm going shopping this weekend with my friend Stef. I'm sure we'll be able to work something out.

Wish me luck, dah-ling!

I was told that I look very "Mad Men" today. I can only presume that means Peggy, rather than Joan. Alas.

Still, I'll take what I can get. Especially when it involves Fluevogs.

Scarf: Marshall's

Heels: Fluevog

Daily Outfit - Kate - 2/17/11

There was a thread on my knitting forum recently about how LLBean stuff is all dowdy and old ladyish. So that was my cue to prove them wrong.

I love this dress. I've only worn it a few times so far, but do you ever get a piece and just know that you're going to adore it for years and years and years? Yeah, that's me and this dress. I'm in it for the long haul.

Dress: LLBean
Boots: LLBean
Tights: Target
Scarf: Old Navy
Earrings: Mum

Closet Craving: Boden

Yeah, I know I'm the last person on the face of the earth to discover Boden.

BUT HAVE YOU SEEN THIS?!?!

Ugh. WANT WANT WANT.

Why are you not in my size? The clearance gods frown upon me.

Other loves: this (talk about the perfect showcase for a gorgeous belt!), this, and this. Oh, and this. Dammit I wish I were rich.

Daily Outfit - Jen - 02/14/11

It's only in retrospect that I am realizing that this was my Valentine's Day outfit. Man, I couldn't have at least worn red? Of course, I am wearing this sweet invisibility shawl (scarf, I know, I know. HARRY POTTER FOREVER!) to hide my cold dark heart.

My outfit (about) one year ago.

Invisibility shawl: Gift (Thanks, Kate!)
Top: Dumbass company that just won't remove me from their mailing list after multiple requests over the course of a year. Rhymes with Shmelia's.
Jeans: Nordstrom Rack
Boots: Aldo

Daily Outfit - Kate - 2/16/11

HOLY CRAP!!!! IS THAT...DAYLIGHT?!?!?!

IT IS! IT IS!

(It's also the dry, stalk-y dredges of last year's garden. Sorry. I'm a lazy-ass and a failure as a human being, clearly.)

I love this skirt - this photo really doesn't do it justice, but I just have to say - I'm almost ashamed that I let it languish, unworn, in my closet for so long. I'm sorry, skirt. Forgive me?

(PS>I love how you can see my little green Mazda, Ahura, hanging out down on the street. High, Ahura! Sorry I only drive you once every 3 weeks or so!)

Daily Outfit - Kate - 2/15/11

Guess what? I've actually come up with a GOOD excuse to not do laundry.

I call it - "outfit creativity"!

This shirt almost never gets worn, unless all my other clothes are either dirty and/or damp and hanging on drying racks. And then I pull this from my closet, and think about its lovely little print and how I never wear it and how I really should. And then I wear it.

This happens a few times a year. Which I guess is enough reason for me to keep the shirt around, eh? :-)

Shirt: thrifted, originally GAP

Skirt: GAP
Boots: LLBean
Tights: Target

Cowl: handknitted by me!

Dear Jen

I am SO TIRED of outfit posts like this:

Ugh. Dark. Yellow. Blurry. February is the point where winter starts to seem *really* long, and even though you know I ADORE this cold weather, and I don't even mind the short days and dark afternoons/evenings, I do get a bit tired of the lack of photo opportunities.

So...yellow and blurry it is. For now. And then the daylight will creep back, and my pasty skin will greet the sun (err...with SPF70, that is), and I will pine for the days of - like you said - jackets and layering and cold blustery winds.

I just can't win, can I? :-D

Dear Kate

Remember last summer when we were complaining about the heat and how much harder it is to dress fashionably when you can't layer? I was so looking forward to the cooler months so that I could layer to my heart's content, and I am now realizing that I forgot how. I've been dressing down-right terribly and blaming it on the cold weather, except... eh, wasn't it cold last winter, too? Excuses, shmexcuses! I need to get it together.

Happy Valentine's Day, pretty girl!

Yours,
Jen

Daily Outfit - Jen - 02/12/11

I asked for season tickets to the ballet for the 2010-11 season, and because I'm loved (and persistent), I got 'em. I'm all about PDA, but with Valentine's Day upon us, there was an unusually high turnout of LOVERS at the ballet last night. You know what I am talking about. LOVERS are those people with tongues in throat, holding one another for prolonged periods of time, staring deeply into each other's eyes... in front of everybody. There were a couple of LOVERS sitting right in front of us, and we totally got 2 shows for the price of 1 last night.

Oh, yeah. This is what I wore.

Daily Outfit - Jen - 02/07/11

I love this dress, though it's gotten a bit too short over the years.

It's hard to stay warm in a short dress, so as far as I'm concerned, this was my actual outfit. It really was, since I didn't take off the coat or scarf until I came home and Jarod took the above photo. Then I hauled hiney indoors. Brrrr.

Peacoat: Nordstrom, a long time ago. I think.

Daily Outfit - Kate - 2/8/11

Sometimes these "I must be practical. Must wear clothes in which I can walk four miles to work and back" outfits get rather dull.

What is interesting to me, though, is that a year ago I would've been sooooo proud of this exact outfit - for combining textures and colors and working from a well-rounded color palette and resisting the urge to over- or under-accessorize.

But a "WIN!" from a year ago is a "meh" for today.

Meh.

Dear Kate

I feel like a zombie. I actually have outfit photos, but I'm too exhausted to post them. I need some mint chocolate chip ice cream. That helps with fatigue, right?

I cannot wait for you to visit. Weeeeeeeeeee!

Jen

PS>Do I win for shortest weekly letter ever? Well get this: no outfit post today, b/c the card is in my camera, which is in the living room. And I'm in bed. So...tomorrow! :-)

Daily Outfit - Kate - 2/3/11

This outfit would be almost entirely unworthy of merit, as I yet again walked to work and had to dress accordingly:

UNTIL you see what I have hidden under that scarf!

TA-DAH!!! (This was all of 2 minutes old at this point)

Jen dearest sent me a SNITCH! My very own snitch!!!

It's pretty much the coolest thing I've ever seen. EVER.

But wait! There's more!

Matching earrings!

I am just absolutely floored. Wow'd. Amazed. Surprised.

I may be a bit of a Potter fan, y'know...

That's the picture they're going to use for my inclusion in the Cool People Club. Doesn't get cooler than a goofy grin and an armful of wizard stories does it?

Don't answer that.

Tee: Old Navy
Jeans: Levi's
Snow boots: LLBean

Snitch necklaced and earrings: JENNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN!!!!!

Dear Jen

Holy crap it's Wednesday?

Like, seriously?

Sorry, I guess SNOWPOCALYPSE 2011 is making me lose track of time.

And also it's apparently making me lose track of style. Because today I trudged the 2 miles to work in jeans, an old cardigan and an older shawl. And snowboots. And I couldn't even muster up the energy to bring along a nice skirt and heels to change into.

SNOWPOCALYPSE 2011 IS EATING MY FACE.

Dear Kate

Oh my gosh. How does one dress for 17* weather?? Unfamiliar territory. Please advise. AHHHH!
