Daily Outfit - Kate - 2/21/11

I was told that I look very "Mad Men" today. I can only presume that means Peggy, rather than Joan. Alas.

Still, I'll take what I can get. Especially when it involves Fluevogs.

Daily Outfit - Kate - 1/25/11

I need to invent a new word. A word which adequately conveys the idea of "comfy and nice but completely expected and thoroughly uninspired."

Any ideas? Because I'm feelin' it.

Daily Outfit - Kate - 1/12/11

This photo is dark for a reason:

And that's because this outfit is THE MOST BORING ONE KNOWN TO MAN.

That's what tends to happen when one is so busy knitting that one is running late for work, and then one must throw on whatever clothes one can find.

(You see? I used "one" there as if I weren't the person doing it.)

Cardi: Filene's Basement? maybe?
Tee: GAP
Skirt: Old Navy
Boots: FLUEVOG!
Necklace: Christmas gift from Jeff :-)

Daily Outfit - Kate - 12/15/10

This outfit.

This outfit is the cursed thing I was wearing when I cried at work. When my lemon bars completely failed me. And when I hit an acquaintance's parked car.

I love all of these pieces individually, and none of them have failed me before.

Therefore I must figure that it's the combination - innocuous though it may seem - which is deadly.

NEVER AGAIN.

Daily Outfit - Kate - 12/13/10

Jeff drove me to work today, because I was running late and had to proctor exams and...awww hell, it's snowy.

Guess what that means?

NO BOOTS.

(But Fluevogs. Which are so comfy they might as well be boots.)

I'm not really fuzzy and angry. Just tired and worn out from trying to navigate the Trader Joe's/Target/PetsMart parking lot in the middle of December.

I'm lucky I came out of it alive, wouldn't you say?

Oh! So...outfit-y talk!

One thing I loved about this outfit is just how many components are personalized, and/or thoughtfully made. Aside from the Target cardi and GAP/Old Navy components, everything else is either handmade, and/or consciously and mindfully constructed. I love buying from small sellers or companies, and getting free pretties from my mum. It makes the outfits that much more special, eh? :-)

Daily Outfit - Kate - 11/22/10

I'm still fighting this stupid cold.

So yesterday I wore new Fluevogs to help:

It didn't work. I may still lose a lung at any moment.

Also? It was 70+ degrees yesterday. END OF NOVEMBER FAIL.

The Spoils: The F-word

My friends, I have been bad.

There was a great deal to be had on Endless last week.

And...

Which doesn't look all that exciting, I know. But you haven't looked inside yet. At this:

Oh yes I did.

(At least you know it isn't boots)

O.M.G.

I mean, what else am I gonna do when they're only $140, and there's one pair left, and THEY'RE MY SIZE?

My hands were tied.

I'm so in love.

And so poor now.

But so in love.

Surely you understand?

(Besides, I'm just working my way down the list? Which makes total sense.)

Daily Outfit - Kate - 11/16/10

We went to THE CONCERT on Tuesday night! (It was ossum. I'm going to blog about it on KateOhKatie later.)

So I wore my most rockstar outfit.

Sad that my most rockstar outfit involves tweed, a turtleneck, and handknits - BUT THAT'S HOW I ROLL, YO.

Of course, the Fluevogs totally make up for any other want of rockstar-ed-ness. Yes they do.

(Side note - Wozzie like to lick the floor. Wozzie no smart.)

Daily Outfits - Kate - 11/9/10 and 11/10/10

What do these two outfits have in common?

and

That's right, they're two perfectly nice outfits, with photos ruined by laziness-induced flash photography, flyaway hairs, and an unexplained state of frumpiness on the part of the wearer.

I'm sorry, clothes. You deserve better.

And that is why daylight savings time can KISS MY ASS.

Closet Craving: Fluevog Cherish

Here we go again...

I promise I'm not being unfaithful to my beloved Chinoas, but...well, I have a lot of love to go around.

Daily Outfit - Kate - 10/27/10

Pictures were quick today, as I immediately had to turn around and go run errands (whee!).

I said "WHEE!".

Whee.

Love that bag. Not loving how the proportions of skirt + boots + top appear here in this post, but rest assured that it's better in person. Really.

Daily Outfit - Kate - 10/20/10

OK this is all kinds of confusing. So let me say two things:

1)Tuesday's outfit was AWESOME. But then after work I went to pick up my LLBean boots from the shoe repair shop, and then I decided to trade in my black heeled boots (which I'd been wearing that day) so they could re-glue the toes for me. So that sort of ruined the effect of the outfit. BUT it was *originally* my long purple skirt, grey tee, black cardi, black heeled boots, and silver jewelry. It was supercool. I will have to repeat that one.

2)I have no idea what happened to my face here. Or my pose. Or my dog. I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT'S GOING ON WITH ANYTHING.

You try and sort it out - 'cause I sure can't!

BUT - FLUEVOGS ROCK. that's all.

Daily Outfit - Kate - 10/18/10

The cause of the delirium:

Nice picture, right? Mom just dyed my hair. Cute outfit. Gorgeous weather.

LOOK CLOSER.

Oh yeah.

(And also that video? OH CREEPY. HOLY HELL, '80s.)

At last I've found wuv. Twue wuv.

"Fluevog. Fluevog is what bwings us togethaw today. Fluevog, that bwessed boot, that dweam within a dweam..."

OK well tonight I'm gonna go home and watch The Princess Bride and Ferris Bueller.

Unrequited Love

As I sit here gnawing at a chocolate reindeer leg (helloooo, leftover Christmas candy!) and mindlessly scanning posts in my RSS, I must confess that in another way I'm actually exercising every ounce of self-restraint that I'm able. You see, Jeff's wallet is on the coffee table in front of me, and I've got a Firefox tab open onto www.fluevog.com.

John Fluevog's shoes have been on the periphery of my awareness for some time now, but it wasn't until Audi's recent post about her shoe collection (including more than a few pairs of Fluevogs) that my internal switch flipped from "would be cool" to "WANT!" The direct problem with this is, of course, that I have already maxed out my shoe budget until 2015 (give or take a year). So until that point, I'll just share some of my favorite styles with you, and also let you know that I've never had an anonymous benefactor but I definitely wouldn't mind it. Size 7. Just in case you were wondering.

Let's start with the least attainable (for me, at least). Of course, they're boots: Chinoa:

I think they're great in either brown or black, but the reddish brown has some color contrast that really adds a lot of visual interest. And even though they don't look it, these would be VERY versatile - they'd look relatively "normal" under boot-cut jeans for a more conservative look, or tucked into skinnies with a voluminous top to be edgier. I can also imagine wearing them with a deconstructed cotton a-line skirt, plaid above-the-knee skirt, or (how awesome would this be?) tulip-shaped midcalf skirt. Like many Fluevogs, the styling really skirts the line between Victorian/steampunk and ultra-modern, so they'd work well in either setting. And the versatility makes them a perfect candidate for a one-pair-weekend trip, eh?

Xie Xie are another similarly versatile boot:

They come in black too, but I'm of the mindset that if I'm going to drop serious $$$ on some boots, I want to be able to wear them with *everything*. And in my twisted little mind, red says "everything" more than black does. Can't you imagine these beauties worn with a brown dress (maybe with crinoline peeking out underneath) and oodles of delicate copper or gold jewelry?

Libby Smith will be the last boot I talk about. I promise. Maybe.

These cuties, with the spat detail and dainty heel, are probably the most look-specific boots I've posted here. They're very evocative of that romantic Steampunk style, aren't they? Although, that's not to say you couldn't wear them with a jeanskirt and white lace knee-high socks, is it? :-D

Moving on to shoes, I've just gotta say that I LOVE Malibran:

Diana has a pair in the beautiful goldenrod pictured above, and I love how she mixes them up with so many other colors. The styling is great, too - the epitome of timeless, but with a shape, color, (and that contrast stitching!) to keep them from looking at all boring. Because of my pale skintone and red hair, most yellows make me look kinda, erm, "dead". But wearing yellow down at my feet would be a great way to incorporate the color without looking like a zombie, eh? I'd pair them with just about everything - pencil skirts to tweedy pants and everything in between.

Giulia may *look* like a boot, but it's not! No, it's a bootie. Completely different, I assure you:

This shade of brown is absolutely perfect, IMNSHO. My beloved LLBean flat boots are pretty close to this color, and it's wonderful. The reddish brown is like a chameleon - it can fade into the background and act as a neutral when paired with brighter colors, or wear with neutrals (black, white, khaki, olive) and suddenly they pop! Plus, the super-cute styling is great for 3 seasons of wear - won't look out of place in March or September :-)

I would have gone nuts for Illeana in the '90's, and I'm still going nuts for them now:

I'm sure the 90's wasn't the first place that this whole "blocky styling and lots of buckles" thing emerged, but it's the first place *I* remember seeing it. In an homage to my 8th-grade self, I'd wear these with a plaid skirt and non-matchy twinset, but I'd keep it modern by throwing a wide, cinched belt overtop and maybe wearing my favorite patterned tights. They'd also be supercute dressed down, with capris in the summertime.

I hope you enjoyed this little tour through my wishlist! If there's one good thing about all this window shopping (though keep in mind that "good" is in the eye of the beholder), it's that I've finally set upon a New Years resolution for 2010 - to buy a pair of Fluevogs before the year is out. Now I'm off to put Jeff's wallet under his sleeping head, to remove the temptation to resolve my resolution this instant :-D
