Daily Outfit - Kate - 9/18/10

Saturday is for errands, cleaning, and an outfit made up of "favorites":

This is also the blog - and life! - debut of this awesome scarf, which my mom found at a head shop in Lawrence, KS a couple months back.

What my mom was *doing* in a head shop in Lawrence, KS, I'm not about to ask. But presumably it at least partially consisted of scarf shopping. So it's OK. :-P

Oh! And also! I made you a present!

It's a face.

I hope you enjoy it.

The Spoils: Green Eyed Soul Studio

My coworker, Misti, is a super talented jewelry designer. She goes by Green Eyed Soul, and HELLO. How gorgeous is her stuff? Because she knows that I love her work, she always gives me sneak peeks of her new designs. My mind is constantly blown by how she does what she does, and when I saw this necklace, it "spoke to me," as Misti would say. I wanted it then and there, but she insisted that I let her take it home and package it up for me.

Man, I wish the pictures did this piece justice. It's made of sterling silver that she oxidized, and it includes a sapphire (my birthstone!) and mood stones and just pure goodness. I love it.

You can view Misti's Etsy store to check out her beautiful pieces. I think her handmade beads are amazing, and I think you will, too!

Daily Outfit - Kate - 4/12/10

New cardigan!

I'm deeply, sincerely hoping that THIS WILL BE THE ONE to supplement my old ratty white cardigan. It's cotton, 3/4 sleeves, a bit of interesting detail (but not overwhelming), in a nice solid color. Nevermind that it's magenta and long and ruffly. Other than that, they're practically identical :-P

Also, MOMJEWELRY!

I love this stinkin' necklace so much.

Cardigan: Target, spring 2010
Tee: Old Navy
Skirt: thrifted, originally Forever 21
Shoes: Naturalizer, fall/winter 2009

Daily Outfit - Kate - 3/17/10

So even though you guys see my outfits (almost) every day, that's not quite how I really run around. If you were to see me walking down Olive St. in downtown St. Louis on any given day, I'd look pretty much like this:

Only, um...without the cat.

But other than that, it's pretty much accurate - the earbuds attached to my iPod Nano (which I never carry in-hand, but always keep stashed), the sensible cross-body bag (in my old age, I've come to really prefer them over shoulder bags - love the hands free comfort!), the purrrrdy new trench coat of awesomeness. Yup, that's me.

Today, under the ensemble:

YAWN. And, um, do I even have a waist? Ugh. In an effort to achieve the "less is more" look, I really under-accessorized. This outfit needed textured tights or a scarf or a little belt or a bunch of bracelets or SOMETHING. I felt frumpy and schlumpy all day, after I first realized the problem (not 'till *after* I got to work, of course). Not a mistake I intend to repeat again!

Speaking of mistakes, check this out:

I love those earrings. They remind me of spools of thread, and I bought them at the Kirksville farmer's market when I was there one day with a girlfriend and her two daughters. They're fantastic and fun and I love them.

But guess what? I have no intention of wearing them today.

Somehow - guess I wasn't paying attention - I grabbed them instead of the dangly silver-and-cobalt ones I meant to wear. And didn't realize it until I was preening (shut up you do it too) in the bathroom mirror this afternoon. What's next, leaving the house wearing two different boots? (Sorry Amber...)

Honestly, my favorite part of the outfit was my necklace:

Jeff gave me the pendant on our first Valentine's Day, and the chain for our second Christmas. It's tiny and dainty and perfect and I love it. Isn't he a good jewelry-picker-outter? :-)

Daily Outfit - Jen - 2/16/10

Daaang, this was not what I'd planned to wear today. I had an outfit - a NON-JEANS outfit, no less - planned out, and when I put my top on, I found that the wrist was ripped! Sad day. So I scrambled and threw this together. (Hi, Broughton!)

I have no idea how this necklace came into my possession. It is THAT old. It originally had a (fake) gold bohemian leaf pendant thing, but I removed it this morning because I think it makes the necklace more versatile. I was even complimented on it, today!

These squeaked with every frikkin frakkin step, but they are orange, so it's okay.

Top: Old Navy (clearance!)
Necklace: magic!

Daily Outfit - Kate - 2/15/10

I was running 5 minutes late this morning, but since a train comes every 15 minutes, I chose to look at it as "10 minutes early". MEANING, I had time for a few quick outfit photos in Real! Daylight!

(it's so weird for me to be blogging about an outfit that's actually on my body right this instant. And also that sitting thing? Not working. Hey! you! Stand up!!!)

OK.

Obviously the location stuff still needs some work, but I think it's progress, yes?

Today's outfit was all about comfort and security, and being EASY. Just the same, I love each piece that went into it and I'm pretty happy with the overall result. I'm also wearing this $10 clearance Target belt TO DEATH and it's validating for me the need for a higher quality, similar piece. What can I say? The studded, utilitarian, antiqued look just works with so many outfits! (and I love it with the studded boots :-))

Ughghghgh I'm a freakishly pink alien!!! (with a crookedly-hanging necklace of awesomeness) :-)

Shirt: Target, Merona, 2008
Skirt: thrifted, George
Boots: 704b, via DSW
Tights: Target

Necklace: MOMMMMMMMMM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Earrings: gift shop in a barn in Iowa, circa 1999

Daily Outfit - Kate - 1/26/10

I really feel like these photos don't do today's outfit justice.

My goal here today was to incorporate a brighter color or two into my usually-dark winter palette. So I started building with the only bright-colored scarf in my wardrobe. I feel like the salmon-y pink complements the scarf's gold and lavender nicely, even though I don't know enough about color theory to tell you why :-P That skirt is my favorite purple corduroy one which I actually tracked down in Kansas City and sent my dad down to the Plaza to buy. It was worth it, because I wear it all the time and know I'll love it for years to come.

Close-up that shows the color of my scarf and the shiny gold threads running through it.

Finally, if I ever come out with an emo/punk album with a single called "Amber Ring" then this'll be the album cover:

Just so ya know.

Skirt: GAP, Fall 2009
Tee: Target via Goodwill, summer 2008
Cardigan: Target
Boots: LLBean
Tights: Target
Earrings: mom-made
Ring: booth at Maple Leaf, Fall 2009
Scarf: booth at Gypsy Caravan, spring 2009
